About Us

We're Katie and Jeffrey Verrue, and we've been married for 17 years, and have 3 children that we've homeschooled for 8 years. We've lived up in the beautiful Sierra Foothills of Central California since 2015. We love all that the land teaches us: how to slow down, appreciate the creations around us, and revel in the calm that nature provides us.

I'm Katie, and I earned my bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (K-8 Education) in 2010, and continued on to earn a California Teaching Credential in 2012. I worked in elementary and middle schools in Clovis until 2015 when I began homeschooling full-time.  I am both a Hiking and Educational Docent with Sierra Foothill Conservancy, am Forest School Level 1 certified, and earned both Introductory and Intermediate certifications through The Herbal Academy.

I'm Jeffrey, and I'm a proud Eagle Scout, Scoutmaster, and have worked with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's youth group for 10 years. I bring hands-on experience with tools, carpentry, and other bushcraft skills. I am also a Hiking Docent with Sierra Foothill Conservancy.

Wild Oak Nature School is on over 40 acres here in the Oak Woodlands of the Sierra Foothills, and every picture on this website is of our land. We have been so blessed being here, and wish to share what we've been given with others.

We've seen the decline in unstructured outdoor play, and being outdoors in nature as compared to when we grew up. Because of this, we hope to foster a love for nature and help guide children to be respectful stewards over this land, using Wild Oak Nature School as the avenue in which we can accomplish that. We are hopeful that our vision of operating a nature immersion program sparks a fire in these young souls.

"Sit on your nerves and trust the children."
